An Unusual Case of a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor

چکیده
285 omas are the cavernous type, whereas vertebral hemangiomas are most frequently of the capillary type. The bony trabeculae within this tumor are thought to be the result of osteoclastic resorption and osteoblastic activity by the growing vascular tumor [5]. The treatment of choice for intraossoeus hemangioma is en bloc resection with an adequate normal bone margin, and the bony defect can be reconstructed by various methods. Other therapeutic methods include curettage, radiotherapy, and embolization. However, partial removal is likely to be followed by recanalization. Radiotherapy can reduce the tumor volume and has demonstrated symptomatic improvement, but it has the risk of radiationinduced carcinoma. Therefore, radiation therapy should be reserved for cases that are unresectable or have a residual tumor from subtotal resections. Curettage is not a good treatment modality because it can produce excessive bleeding and shows a high recurrence rate. In conclusion, intraosseous cavernous hemangioma is a rare bone tumor in the calvarium and demonstrates similar radiologic findings to other bone tumors. It can thus be confused with other bone tumors. Therefore, the diagnosis is frequently made in the operative field by its hemorrhagic features and confirmed by histologic examination. The treatment of choice is surgical resection with an adequate normal bone margin.

Intrathoracic Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor: Histopathological and Immunohistochemical Features
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a rare nerve sheath tumor derived from Schwann cells or pleuripotent cells of neural crest. Neurogenic tumors make about 10-20% of all mediastinal tumors. Incidence of MPNST is 0.001% in general population and 0.16% in patients with neurofibromatosis I (NF I). We report a case of 60 year female presenting with progressive cough and breathlessne...

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a rare malignant tumor that develops either from a preexisting neurofibroma or de novo. The cell of origin is believed to be the Schwann cell and possibly other nerve sheath cells. In this report, we describe a rare case of MPNST that arise from the socket of second left maxillary molar that has been already extracted in a young man. He was ref...
متن کاملPrimary Intracranial Malignant Nerve Sheath Tumor in the Cerebellopontine Angle in a Woman with Neurofibromatosis Type 2
Neurofibromatosis type 2 is an inherited disease. The main manifestation of the disease is the development of symmetric, non-malignant brain tumors in the region of the cranial nerve VIII usually as schwannoma. We report here a 20-year-old woman with primary intracranial malignant nerve sheath tumor located in the left cerebellopontine angle. Histologically, the tumor showed malignant spindle c...

Background and Objective: Approximately 45% of benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) occur in head and neck regions. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are less common and only 8-15% of these tumors occur in head and neck region. In this study, we aimed at evaluating the demographic characteristics, pathologic findings, locations, main clinical presentations and family h...
متن کاملPrimary Intraosseous Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor of Metacarpal Bones of the Hand in a Patient Without Neurofibromatosis 1: Report of a Rare Case
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) usually arises in peripheral nerve sheath cells. The intraosseous location of MPNST is rare. Mandible is the most common site of bony involvement. Involvement of bones of the hand is quite unusual. We report a case of MPNST involving metacarpal bones of the left hand treated with surgery followed by adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy and review t...
متن کاملCentral Mandibular Nerve Sheath Myxoma
Nerve sheath myxoma has been described as a rare neural tumor arising from Schwann cells. It is observed most frequently in the central area of the face, neck and upper extremities. In the past the term neurothekeoma was used as synonym for nerve sheath myxoma but according to new reports, they are separate entities which can be confirmed by immunohistochemistry as in our case. Oral involvement...
